FEAR
This exploding typography project was a piece commissioned by Wired, for a story about the battle against the anti-vaxx movement. The piece had to convey the shock of sudden, startling fear - raw, shattering, uncontrollable fright.
Done completely photographically, this artwork was an exciting production challenge involving lots of craft, lighting tricks, general smashing & high speed capture. The lettering & shards were shot from above using a specially built dimensional background for the material to collide against and generate radial dynamic breaks, using a good amount of frosty props, glass panes, tumblers & big blocks of ice. The setup made it possible to photograph textures rich in details, depth & energy, with elements coming towards the viewer for a realistic, involved and engaging feel.
