A gorgeous commission from the management team to create this gig poster for the The National as a special present for the band, offered in limited edition to its fans. As a creative route, we were inspired by the beautiful, melodic sound of the High Violet album and wanted to design a soft yet powerful visual.

We came up with this photographic illustration of a butterfly softly turning into liquid, using a birdwing specimen with its wingspan displayed wide & bold on the canvas and colorized with Sean’s favourite shade of blue. Anchoring dripping points onto the natural wing pattern for a seamless transition, we handcrafted each wing using mixed paints and captured them as they were slowly trickling down, doing their magic full of tactile details.
