A nice brief from Harper Collins to illustrate the cover of this New York Times bestselling dark epic fantasy young adult book inspired by the tale of Snow White. As a nod to the original story, we created a poisoned apple, with the title delicately hand carved directly into the flesh of the fruit.

Focusing on realism, texture & depth, we captured our juicy black apple in radial segments to build our hero visual with a perfect shape & seamlessly integrated typographic composition, against a contrasting pure white background. The idea behind the graphic simplicity of our layout was to evoke a sense of coldness, as well as to enhance the 'good vs evil' visual feel of the tale. Design, food styling, photography & post-production were all done in-house.
