Drawing on his own experiences in trauma surgery as an anaesthetist and intensive care expert, this essay is Kevin Fong's account of the way cutting-edge medicine is pushing the envelope of human survival. It’s a story about life: its fragility, its fractal beauty and its resilience - an exploration of what it means to be alive by looking at life's boundaries and at the human body's response when tested by the extremes. In that spirit, we created this photographic phototreatment by submerging and partially freeze the title, graphically encapsulating coldness though various a range of organic textures.
